County Fair Evangelism

Yesterday evening was our first night at the Leavenworth County Fair! We had never been to the County Fair before. Nathan and his wife, Melanie, rented a booth as an evangelistic opportunity to give out free soft drinks and a gospel tract. We’re helping man the booth. The plan is to be there each evening Tuesday through Friday, and then all day Saturday.

The Fair organizers put us in a great location, and we had a lot of traffic. The booth was a hit with young and old alike. Throughout the evening, we gave out over four hundred sodas, and most people were given (and accepted) two tracts with each soda. The truly amazing part of the tract distribution was how many people said “Thank you!” Of all those sodas, I do not remember a single person rejecting a soda because of the tract, or simply rejecting the tract itself. We started tearing down around 9:00 (even though the fair closes at 10:00), because we had run out of Pepsi, Sprite, and water and just had Diet Pepsi left.

Besides giving out tracts, a number of us had opportunities to share directly about eternity and Jesus with people.

The evening was VERY warm, and the temperatures are supposed to be close to 100 all week with high humidity! Nice and hot.

Now, all we can do is pray that people will read the tracts and will respond to the call of the Holy Spirit!

A Lost Little (cute) Baby Squirrel

Sunday afternoon found Jesse outside in Grandad and Grandma’s backyard. In the heat of the afternoon, Jesse strolled across the lawn when he noticed a little creature in the grass. He looked down and there was a little baby squirrel. Jesse hurried inside and sounded the alarm that there was a little squirrel outside. We walked out and sure enough it lay in the grass. Every once in a while it tried to crawl around, but it seemed very wobbly. It had a noticeable face of an adult squirrel, and was covered in reddish/brown fur. It also had a tail that was about 4 inches long. After observing it for a little bit, we decided to take our Sunday afternoon naps. We thought that maybe his mom would come and carry him back to the nest [which was up in the tree].

The squirrel on the ground.

Once we were awake from our naps we decided to check on the squirrel again. It was still there. After getting permission from Dad, Joseph went outside to pick him up so that he could be put into a little box. While trying to get the squirrel in the box he (meaning the squirrel) decided to go for a little run. He raced down Joseph onto the tile floor. Thankfully, he didn’t have enough traction to run fast and we were able to catch him. We decided to give him some Pedialyte in a syringe to see if he could recover from sitting outside all afternoon in the heat.

Monday we got him some milk, which he loves. We decided to give him the name Chippey. John called several places and the best advice they told John was to keep him until he could climb a tree and fend for himself. That is what we decided to do.

Work Projects

Since our new book, Managers of Their Chores has been out, we’ve kept busy keeping the books compiled!

Recently, Dad declared several Chore book work sessions; we absolutely love to work together! Even Grandad (Mom’s parents live right next door!) joined us packing boxes.

Myself, Anna, and Jesse compiled the book and kits. Dad measured the paper, Mary was the refill girl (she constantly heard the calls of “More paper, quick!” or “ChorePacks, please!” as the compilers rushed to keep ahead of the fast shrink-wrapper, Joseph). Joseph operated the shrink-wrap machine at a lightning speed. John put boxes together for Grandad, taped them up, and then moved them!

Only for Jesus,
Sarah
