Sharing Christ: Part 4, Steve’s Thoughts

We went to two county fairs recently to share Christ. The first one I wasn’t very prepared for, was somewhat uncomfortable, and didn’t think it was very profitable. Yet, it was good because I determined to do better next time.

Other family members were successfully using balloon animals to begin conversations about spiritual things so I went home determined to learn balloon twisting. I soon got to where I could consistently make a fair-looking dog and was content to go with that.

The second night came, and I was really looking forward to it. Equipped with a balloon pump, balloons, tracts, and five dollar bills off we went. I soon found a picnic table to sit on near a food court and began making balloons for some children.

One very articulate ten-year-old young man and I had a great conversation while I made him a crazy hat. I was so saddened to learn that he had never even heard of God’s Ten Commandments. He happily took a tract with them on it to read at home later and prepare for next year, and even asked for some for his friends.

I was able to share with others and was especially pleased when I compared the first fair endeavor to the second one.

Sharing Christ: Part 3, Jesse’s Thoughts

Jesse’s Thoughts: I enjoyed the opportunity to go to the fair and witness last week. I spent most of the time walking through the carnival area looking for a chance to give a tract to and speak with young people. A number of the groups were interested in talking, and we had enjoyable conversations as a result. There were some who participated politely and then others who moved on. I appreciated every young person who took the time to talk about their eternal destiny, and I pray that the Lord might use the discussions to bring them to Him.

One of guys that I talked with and remember in particular was at the previous fair that we had gone to and had been part of a group of guys that I engaged with at that point. This time, though, he was with a different friend and as we were starting into a discussion about what he thought, he encouraged me to take his friend through the Good Person Test. His friend was extremely interested and thoughtful about what would happen to him after he died. The Lord also blessed us with nice weather that night which made for a great time altogether.

Jesse

Sharing Christ: Part 2, Mary’s Thoughts

Mary’s Thoughts: I love opportunities to share Jesus. There’s no better witnessing opportunity than when a group of people are gathered together. Christopher has been an inspiration to me in sharing Christ. Although he’s not in these pictures, we had a great time going to another fair and sharing together a couple of weeks ago.

I try to look for other teens and ask them if they can name 8 of the Ten Commandments. It’s really wonderful to get the synergy going as they try to come up with the Ten Commandments. Often they call out to their friends for help.

I then take them through the “good person” test. It’s really amazing to watch their faces as the reality of their sin and their inability to get  to heaven without Jesus hits them. Not everything was so easy, though, because there were a lot who weren’t at all interested. It took persistence to find receptive groups.

Sometimes I would make a child a balloon. I either gave them Living Waters’ “Hey Kids” tract (now renamed Albert Brainstein) or a trillion dollar bill tract. What’s really encouraging are the children who help giving out the tracts. I had a lot come back asking for more saying they wanted to give them to friends.

These times are exciting. Who knows what God’s plan is with those conversations!

Jesus’ Girl,

“When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die;
and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest
to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to
save his life; the same wicked man shall die
in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.”

Sharing Christ: Part 1, Sarah’s Thoughts

Last night, some of our family (not everyone was available) went to the county fair. The purpose was to engage people in conversation and share Jesus.

We decided to split the report and pictures into several posts, so you’ll hear from a few of us. So stay tuned!

Sarah’s Thoughts: At first, I took pictures, but then I decided it was time to take the plunge. I spotted two teenage girls eating hot dogs, and I asked them if they’d like to take a survey. They readily agreed. I said if they got eight of the Ten Commandments right, they’d get $5. Clearly, they liked that idea. It’s a very simple way to witness.

On my clipboard, I had a little sheet that listed the Ten Commandments, and I checked them off as people said them. I also told them they didn’t need to give them word perfect–just the concept. I also didn’t set a time limit.

With groups of teenagers, you can get some real synergy going, as they all work together, discuss, and try to come up with the commandments. You can tell they like it, because of the way they interacted with me and asked me to tell them how many they had gotten or to read off the ones they had. They were very engaged. Afterward, I gave them a Trillion Dollar bill tract or Are You a Good Person? tract. One group of girls I had shared with and had earned their $5, stopped to talk later on. They said the $5 had been perfect because they had been headed back for $5 more for their ride!

DSC_7546I loved sharing Jesus last night. I’ll admit at first, it took me out of my comfort zone to walk up to someone, but as soon I took that step, it was awesome. It gave people opportunities to think about eternity. It’s forever.

The girl behind our trip last night—my sister, Mary. She has such a heart for sharing Jesus: it has been an example to me. You should see her face glow, and it’s inspired me. Sharing Jesus through the Ten Commandment survey, followed by however the Spirit prompts, is so easy. Just go equipped with $5 bills. You’ll need them!

Love,
Sarah

Happy 16th Birthday, Mary!

You are an absolute joy and delight. The radiance of the Lord Jesus exudes from your life.

“Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.” Habakkuk 3:18-19

We love you so much. What a sweet gift to celebrate together surrounded by God’s magnificent, amazing creation. You are truly God’s gift to our family.
