Morning Exercise Together

This summer Teri and I modified our morning schedule to beef up our exercise, and we are greatly enjoying it. We go to bed at 9:00 p.m. so we can get up at 5:00 to beat the heat. Yes, it gets pretty warm in Kansas. We walk 7 miles, and during that time, we spend about 1/2 hour talking, 1 hour praying out loud, and 1/2 hour listening to an audiobook. Some days we come home and do a short kettlebell workout too. After that is personal Bible and prayer time.

Having the same walking route at the same time each day, we are developing some friendships with other walkers we meet regularly.

I love exercising with my best friend and also having that time multiplied for fellowship, prayer, and edification.

We invested in Airpods so that we could listen to the same book together. Some affectionately call them “sharepods.” Right now we are focusing on biographies of great Christians.

It is such a sweet and beneficial time.

giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as
being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not
hindered” (1 Peter 3:7).

  1. Wow, that’s awesome and inspiring.

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8

The children and I did our first ever exercise together in the morning this morning. It’s going to be fun getting into that new habit thanks to Teri’s continual encouragement and example.

    God bless you both!!!!

  5. That’s awesome and such a wonderful idea! It’s also very inspiring! I have never heard of AirPods but they sound like a great idea. Do you have any book titles that you would recommend?

    1. Airpods are wireless earphones by Apple. They do look just a bit odd but are very convenient.
We will do a book recommendation soon.

  6. Dear Steve,

what a great testimony! Do you perhaps have any suggestions for audiobooks or books in general on great Christians? I would love to read more about them.

    Many blessings,

    Alice

  8. Wow, that’s neat! My dad and I run a mile each morning together, we do it in about 7 and a 1/2 minutes. It’s gets even hotter down here in south Louisiana! We run in the heat. 🙂
By the way, what are Airpods? Are they like earbuds without a chord?

  9. I have two questions:
How long does it take you to walk the seven miles?
And do you do this every day, or Monday-Friday?
    Thanks for the post!

    1. Our pace is around 2 hours. There are six days we will walk. During this season we are usually able to take a long walk on five of those days, but weather and special needs/events can affect that.
      Blessings
