Random Life for all the Maxwells

I want to share random life pictures over the past few weeks. We’ve settled into a slower pace after the busyness of the holidays and wedding, but also, quite a few of the family (including the extended family) have battled the flu! It just makes one more grateful for feeling well when you’ve been pretty sick.

We’ve enjoyed beautiful snow mixed with frigid temperatures. God is good all the time, and we rejoice in His blessings. Enjoy a peek into life!

Before we left for the wedding, Cathy Jo and Anna made treats for a honeymoon gift.
John opened Cathy Jo and her family’s gifts before he left. They were so creative!
The morning we left, Cathy Jo, bless her heart, vacuumed John’s car.
A quick picture with a friend before leaving Iowa.
Fellowship with sweet friends: a girls’ lunch!
Learning a new game
With John’s leaving, Jesse rearranged the area and moved his desk into the corner where John’s bed had been. Jesse showing us his new area.
Kansas City is famous for barbecue, so we took Cathy Jo to JackStack when we had a girls’ afternoon out.
Had to take Cathy Jo by IKEA! We girls toured the kitchens and enjoyed talking about aspects we liked/disliked on certain setups.
Saying good-bye to CJ at the airport
One needs a bit of explanation on this one. Mary was actually trying to spot Cathy Jo past security, when this lady walked by to pet Ellie. Thus the disparity on height. Pretty great capture, Anna!
Soup for one sick with the flu
Baking with Aunt Mary
Sweet Melanie reading to her sick kiddos. Some days call for pajama days!
Mary drew this for Liddy as a thank you, and I had to capture a picture. WAY CUTE!
I drew Joshua for the little kid Christmas draw, and I wanted something to encourage his thinking skills. This robotic mouse has been perfect!
Family outing for the Christopher Maxwell’s!
Ellie trying to share with Arnold
We met our friends for lunch last week (we each drove a distance)–sweet times of fellowship. We missed Anna who was still really sick with the flu.

  1. Since you posted random life pictures, I’ll post a “random” response. Sarah, I remember hearing you post about how long you waited and prayed for a sister, and your delight at finally getting one (then two!). I have a friend who has 9 children – 8 boys and one nine-year-old girl – (she has 5 older brothers and 3 younger brothers). This weekend my friend gave birth to baby number 10 – her daughter’s first ever sister! I thought you would appreciate their story. =)

    1. Victoria,

LOVE this random response! Yes! I was delighted when Anna came along and then Mary, and now the Lord has blessed me with four sister-in-laws. Thank you for sharing the story!

  2. What a lot of fun and fellowship! It is a blessing to cultivate and enjoy friendships that encourage one another in the Lord. Even Arnold and Ellie are in harmony! Iโ€™m glad that everyone is on the road to good health again.

  3. Ugh so sorry about the flu!! Our whole family got it between Christmas and New Year’s. Hope you’re all on the mend soon!!

  4. Aww thereโ€™s so much goodness in this post! How sweet and thoughtful to make treats for a Honeymoon gift ๐Ÿ™‚ So fun to have wonderful times with friends, such a blessing. I like IKEA too! So sorry you guys have been sick, itโ€™s been going around a lot this year it seems! Weโ€™ve had the sickness junk here too, no fun at all. The extended family pictures are so sweet. Such beautiful families. And what an adorable picture of Lydia and Ellie! And speaking of, I think Ellie and Arnold are the cutest dog/cat combo Iโ€™ve ever seen! So adorable. Such a precious Daddy/Son picture of Christopher and Joshua. Love your pink hat, Sarah!

  5. Love these “random life” posts – this blog is always an encouragement to me! It’s encouraging to see another Christian family simply living life and having fun! Thank you!

  6. Sarah, I LOVE your pink cap/bonnet in the last picture!
Where did you get it? Or is it handmade?

  7. Hi Sarah! You guys look great! I hope everyoneโ€™s feeling great now. Are John and Chelsy back from their honeymoon yet? I would love to see pictures of their house now that itโ€™s (I assume) finished!
    Take care ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. I love your random life posts, so fun to hear and see what is going on! Hope all the sickies are fully well soon and that no one else gets the flu! Weโ€™ve had a few with bad colds but have so far escaped the awful flu thatโ€™s going around. Enjoyed the pcs of you all with friends, what precious times of fellowship and fun!

  9. This must be so strange for Jesse, to go from sharing a bedroom his whole life, to having a room of his own.

How are you all doing with this transition? It must be rather bittersweet to have John move out, while knowing he’s doing so for all the right reasons.

  10. Some of our family also got the flu between Christmas Eve and New Years Day, but thankfully, we are all over it. I enjoyed the pictures of your random life. ๐Ÿ˜€ Thanks for sharing, Sarah.

  11. Ugh the flu isn’t fun.. we all got it right after Christmas. Hope y’ll are feeling better ๐Ÿ™‚ Love your pink hat, Sarah!!

  12. I really enjoy your pictures, Sarah. Thank you for sharing your world with us! My absolute favorite, though, is the picture of Ellie and Arnold. We have a Cabela’s near us and our kids loved going there when they were younger. I bet the little ones had a fun time there. Blessings!

  13. I love this post! I think most of my comments have been made already, but it deserves to be said again that the picture of Ellie and Arnold is just precious! I also love your hat in the last pic! Cathy Jo is a great friend to clean Johnโ€™s car; how thoughtful!
I hope everyone is better from the flu. We meet with some other homeschool families once a week, but it was cancelled this week bc of snow. Hopefully that will also keep any sickness from spreading!

  14. Cute family pictures. The flu is no fun! Hope you guys take it easy and get better. It is bitter cold here, almost as much as it was in Iowa! The snow is so pretty, but we have to bundle up really good to go outside.

I’m supposed to start clinicals soon! A bit nervous.

    Love, Rebecca

  15. Great post Sarah. You certainly rock the hat.

Wow, Cathy Jo is a real trooper for sure!

Looks as if Christopher’s family was visiting Bass Pro or Cabela’s maybe? Storm always loved to go as a “little” to see all of the animals and Big Bertha in the fish tank.

Jack Stack’s was Bill’s fav when we lived in the KC area.

Hope you all are feeling much better.

By the way, loved Teri’s latest video. I’m constantly recommending MOTH to other busy Mom’s.

    Blessings from icy Texas,

    1. Johnna,

Love your comment. You’re always so encouraging! Yes, they went to Cabelas. We have one not far from us. So glad you enjoyed the video! I need to post it here for those who don’t know about it.

  16. my sister caught a flu that lasted 2-3 weeks. my husband & i caught a cold but took robitussin… its very chilly here at nj for a week than the temperatures went up to 40-55…i hope everyone have a fast recovery

    1. Some of my family took a good 2 weeks to get over it! It’s long lasting! So far, I haven’t caught it! ๐Ÿ™‚ We are enjoying the warmer temps after it being so frigid! ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. What sweet family photos! ๐Ÿ™‚
And I was happy to see the cute photo of Ellie and Arnold—so sweet!
Praying that everyone is well now and will stay healthy. Here in Georgia it seems there’s been a lot of sickness too, so I wash my hands often!
    Love, Mrs. Patti

  18. I loved that picture of Arnold and Ellie. It is so cute.
I hope everyone with the flu feels better soon. Did you get it? Our family never gets the flu, though we did get two bad (for me) colds in December.
I love these random life posts! Thanks for sharing.
