Unloading And Our First Day

Our drive up here was beautiful and pretty uneventful. We have a yearly contest to try to sight the first antelope and mountains. That’s always a fun little tradition! I got the antelope sighting, and the mountain one was questionable on who won that!

We stopped at the grocery store before heading up to our cabin Wednesday night. Unloading went quickly, and we settled into the cozy cabin.

Yesterday morning, it was amazing to have Bible time outside, enjoying God’s Creation. It’s so quiet and peaceful, no cicadas and humidity!

We’ve had a sweet time celebrating Mom’s birthday. Chocolate chip muffins and eggs for breakfast, and then we went to town, walked some, and then went on a short hike. We drove the road to the 14er we’re about to do to make sure the van could handle it, and then we hiked up the trail aways. Mom’s dinner choice was enchiladas complete with ice cream and cookies for dessert, and then we gave her gifts and cards.

Happy birthday to Mom!

I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name;
for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are
faithfulness and truth.”

  1. Praying for a wonderful time of refreshing filled with happy memories. Thank you for sharing your adventure!

  2. Sounds lovely. Do you find it hard to find a cabin to accommodate all of the family? Do you get multiple cabins? My family had to search quite hard to find a place able to accommodate 13 of us (my parents, my grown siblings, their spouses, and kids) in the Black Hills of SD. Finding pet friendly was even more of a challenge. Do you use sites like VRBO?

  3. Wow, it is so beautiful there! Love those mountains. Looks like your trip is already off to a great start!

  4. Beautiful pictures!
    We’re going to go shopping our first day in the mountains this year too. 🙂
