Behind-the-Scenes and the Maxwell Family Photo

Getting an extended family picture takes a lot of work and coordination with twenty-one people and lots of energetic little ones.

A few days prior, Anna and Mary found our general location, and Mary coordinated what colors we could choose outfits from. Then, the evening of, Joseph worked hard to set up lights. That’s right. We didn’t just arrive at the location and snap lots of pictures. Joseph’s lights made for an incredible picture.

We also moved our set up several times, as the first two spots either had sun or not a great backdrop. Thankfully we’d started early enough that it worked out fine time wise.

The little ones arrive!

So we rearranged for this area. Talking while others get ready.

We weighted the umbrellas down with sandbags so they didn’t tip with wind.
What does everyone do while Christopher and Sarah are looking at the camera and seeing how the pictures are turning out? Just don't move too far, y'all!

  1. Beautiful! I know what it is like to capture a big family photo! There are twenty-nine in our family.

    Your ministry is an encouragement!

  2. Beautiful family photo and you all look wonderful! Love Joshua and Ruthie in the wagon, so cute. Calia looks so tiny but precious at the same time. Would love to hear an update on Joseph’s family. Blessings.

    Thank you for sharing.

  3. such a lovely picture… your blog continues to inspire my own journey as a homeschool mama, wife, and follower of Jesus.. thank you!

  4. Everyone is looking at the camera, and smiling, even the little ones! That is quite an accomplishment! 🙂 I have 4 children, and I know how difficult it is to get a really quality picture, with everyone looking happy – we don’t have too many of those! I always enjoy seeing pics of your growing family.

Maybe it helps that they’ve grown up around cameras. 😉

  5. I somehow missed that Joseph and Elissa (I hope I am spelling her name correctly had their baby! How exciting. What is their baby’s name?

    Calia Grace.

  6. What a wonderful family photo of a precious family!! 🙂
And I must add that you all did a fantastic job getting everyone positioned for this photo (especially with so many little ones full of energy!).
    Love, Mrs. Patti

Mary had all the positioning planned–sketched out ahead of time!
