Then and Now

My parents have been writing encouragement for other parents for over 20 years. It all started when we led the local homeschool group, and Dad and Mom each wrote something in the newsletter, called the Mom’s and Dad’s Corner. We had a fair number of military families, so when they moved to other bases, they asked to stay on our list so they could still receive the Corners. We then began to e-mail them out. I remember when our list was 100 subscribers. Wow, has it grown! Mom still writes a monthly Mom’s Corner, and Dad a short, weekly e-mail for guys called Seriously. If you’re not on the list, I strongly encourage you to join (we’re double opt in: so after you submit your address, you’ll need to check your e-mail and click on the link to confirm it).

Recently, I added in over 150 Corners to the site, bringing the totals to over 450 articles. Many of those brought back memories. There is such a wealth of information available to help you as a parent, as a Christian, as a husband, as a wife, and yes, even as a single young person.

So here they are: the younger five, many years ago.

As a parent, you may wonder if your child will ever grow up, if they’ll ever be responsible, and if all the work you put into them will pay off. I’m here to tell you it does. See the below picture. They are all adults, mature, and living for Jesus. (The photo was taken in Colorado last year after their last concert before Joseph got married.)DSC_6705

Making a Habit Work for You

I recently heard a talk on goal setting. In it the speaker mentioned hearing a military general talk about how they have the basic trainees get up early in the morning and make their beds immediately. The reason he said they do that is to have them develop the habit of completing a task from start to finish, first thing in their day.

Good habits can make life easy. Don’t you desire to take steps that will lead to life being easier and still accomplish what needs to be done? Those good habits enable the important things of our life to flow, without having to force ourselves, procrastinate, or leave them undone. On top of that, as the general alluded to, they give us a sense of accomplishment. Don’t you like to feel good about your day?

I make my bed first thing when I get up in the morning. It takes me less then 2 minutes. It sets my mental stage for a productive day, and besides I love how my bedroom looks with the bed made.

If you currently don’t get up and make your bed right away, I encourage you to start doing it tomorrow. I think you will be delighted with how you feel and how your bedroom looks. Once you have begun doing that, teach your children to do the same thing. Right living begins with executing simple right choices.

Trusting in Jesus,

As the door turneth upon his hinges,
so doth the slothful upon his bed” (Proverbs 26:14).

New ITonRamp Courses

We have some exciting new courses added to our lineup on

Power Browsing
July 21-28th

nathanpowerbrowsingThe Internet, just like an iPhone, is a powerful, yet potentially dangerous tool. Your web browser is what you use to access Internet resources. Do you know how to safely browse the net? Do you know how to leverage it to make browsing easier? Have you accidentally mis-typed an address and ended up where you wish you hadn’t?

In this 2-week course, which begins Tuesday, July 21st, Nathan teaches you through live webinars how to use the Internet safely and effectively. I firmly believe it is a “must” for every Christian family. You can sign up here.

Business Jump Start
September 30th-October 28th

businessjumpstartMany desire to have a home business, but in a dog-eat-dog-world, it can be difficult.  My dad, Steve, small business owner since 1997, has a wealth of practical experience. Although you know my dad through our Titus2 ministry, you probably didn’t know he worked in corporate America for many years before he began his own business. It’s been an incredible journey!

Business Jump Start is not just an online course. The weekly mentor contacts will be by Skype (video calls), and the homework projects will be tailored specifically to your business and needs. Due to how customized this course will be for your business, course sign ups will close at least one week before the start date. In addition, we may need to limit registrations, so don’t delay in signing up!

“With the advice and instruction I received from Steve, I have been able to better understand the business world. My business has become more organized, efficient, and I make almost twice as much as I did before, as a result of his business experience.” Brandon

Mac OS X Support Essentials
Part 1, September 15-October 20th
Part 2, October 27th-December 8th

mac-os-supportNathan’s advanced A+ course has helped many young people and parents learn Windows computers and how to repair them, and some have gone on to begin a career in the IT industry because of it. Now, Nathan’s excited to offer a Mac equivalent, split into two courses.

It seems Apple’s computers are gaining market share by leaps and bounds, and supporting them is much different than a Windows computer. Whether you’re a casual user who wants to learn your Mac computer, or you’d like to become skilled to support Mac computers in your business, these new courses are sure to help. To view the comprehensive scope, or to sign up, visit these links: Part 1 and Part 2.’s Background

We’re continually gaining new readers on our blog. As a result, you may be scratching your head and asking, “What is, and how does it have to do with the Maxwells?”

nathanmelaniefamilyIn 2011, Nathan, my oldest brother (now approaching 40!), launched ITonRamp, with the blessing and help of the entire family. IT stands for Information Technology and onRamp means we want to be your on ramp–your launching pad–to learning these crucial skills. Nathan started officially in the computer industry when he was 17, teaching computer courses at a local store. He quickly went on to working for corporations as an IT support person and then eventually became self-employed. With our Titus2 ministry, Nathan was aware of young people who were floundering, not having purpose and not knowing how to gain income-producing skills. As a result, Nathan began ITonRamp, with the goal of teaching these skills to young people. In addition, parents have also taken courses: moms desiring to become confident computer users and dads wishing to change their career.

Our next course date for our foundational, five-week Computer Essentials begins Tuesday, July 14th, so you can still sign up. This is a perfect course for a family to do together!

The Red, White, and Blue

I’m grateful to be a citizen of the United States of America. This day, July 4th, signifies something very important. It’s the day we celebrate our adoption of the Declaration of Independence, July 4th, 1776.

Do you realize that during the Revolutionary War, 217,000 people gave their lives for our freedom? They died for our freedom. Generations would be affected by that loss of life: their loss for our gain.

It reminds me of the Lord Jesus’ Ultimate Sacrifice. It’s when the color red becomes white. Isaiah 1:18 puts it well: “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” {emphasis mine}

Most of all, I’m grateful to be a child of Jesus Christ, a handmaiden of the Lord, bought and paid for by His blood.

Happy Independence Day!

We had a delightful breakfast picnic at Joseph and Elissa’s this morning, along with friends and a neighbor. Joseph and Elissa provided incredible hospitality, and we had a wonderful time of fellowship as noted below. Enjoy the pictures!
