The Promised Land?

At church Sunday, one man called the Greensboro area the Promised Land.

We left Tennessee right away Friday morning. The drive was not smooth sailing. Some sections were pretty curvy because we were on the edge of the Smokies, and we also encountered a long slow down due to an accident.

We arrived at the church mid-afternoon and after figuring out where the sessions would be, we jumped into set up. We definitely felt the lack of Joseph being with us, but the others pitched in to cover.

Friday evening’s round-table sessions were good, followed by the Heart, Soul, and Spirit session. The “new” music group did an amazing job, and I still am struck by how much Jesse sounds like Joseph! They rallied well.

Saturday also went well. There had been a request for me to give a girls’ session, so I did that Saturday morning and was blessed by an attentive group of girls. We love seeing people’s interest and eagerness for each session. God is good!

One fun side note. We encourage people to get to know each other. Two couples started talking, and they found out they both had driven 2 1/2 hours, which led to to the fact that they were from the same city. As they talked, they discovered their children worked at the same restaurant! They also found that their children each knew their parents were going to a conference but had no idea it was the same one. Talk about an amazing coincidence!

A sweet family provided us with dinner Friday evening and then lunch on Saturday. Thank you, B family!

We always enjoy meeting new friends, and we’re grateful for those opportunities, along with seeing old friends too!

Love,
Sarah

  1. Oh my goodness, I totally know what it’s like to drive a bus through the smoky mountains! My family has been in the grand Tetons before as well, and let’s just say, it’s not always smooth sailing! 😉 God bless

  2. You will be circling around my neck of the woods. Hopefully you will have a day or two visit some of the amazing historical sights you will be driving through. It is an entirely different perspective to experience Hyde Park (FDR’s home), Appomattox, Gettysburg or the ride of Paul Revere in “real life” rather than a text book.
    Good luck on your journey.

We would enjoy that, but life has been pretty full this trip!

  3. Nice pictures! Did John come? I haven’t seen him in any of the pictures.

He just joined us. He had a business trip.

  4. Did you all make the brown/cream skirts the girls are wearing in the eighth and ninth pictures? If so, where did you buy the fabric and pattern? They are so lovely!
Prayers for safe travels and God’s blessings,
    Sarah

    We bought them.

  5. I really benefited from the conference and enjoyed meeting all of you! My favorite part was “Bible time”. I will be meeting this coming weekend with a few married guys to teach them about how you all do the Bible time, so please pray that it will help them to better lead their wives and children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord for the glory of Jesus Christ. Hopefully I can remember how it all goes 🙂 God bless.

Glad you enjoyed it! That’s exciting you’re going to share with the others. We’ll be praying!

  6. So glad to know that all is going well. You are coming within a couple hours of me, but sadly, we will not be able to attend this time.
I have been blessed to attend conferences you’ve done in my area twice, but had really wanted to come to the Energize! conference. Maybe next time. 🙂
How is Anna Marie feeling? Is baby Drew soaking up all the love that his big sisters are surely giving him? I pray for all of your family often and although I don’t always post comments, I do always read your entries. (And thank you for sharing more of Joseph and Elissa’s photos-so precious!)
    Blessings to you all!

Anna Marie is definitely feeling “morning” sick. Yes, Drew is growing up a lot, and by the time we get home, wow ;). Thanks for praying for us!

  7. I love that part of the country – so beautiful! I noticed John wasn’t in any of the pictures – is he not with you on this trip? Safe travels.
