Update on Andrew Maxwell

We’re so grateful for your prayers. Drew is doing well and has made wonderful progress. He’s still in the NICU, but here’s what’s transpired.

Monday was quiet. Tuesday, Drew became very alert, looking around as if to say, “Hey guys! Why am I here?” I think he’s going to be full of energy (he’ll have to if he’s going to keep up with his big sisters). His bilirubin count was high, so he’s been under special lights to get it taken care of. He has to wear eye gear when the lights are on. Drew is having some episodes of bradycardias, which means the heart rate drops too low. Generally, he auto-corrects. It’s a normal fact of life with preemie babies, and they grow out of it. Abby had it too when she was in the NICU.

Today, Drew took two huge steps: he nursed, and he’s off oxygen!

Our prayer requests would be that the bradys would diminish, Drew would continue nursing, and his lungs would grow stronger.

Melanie is holding up well and is delighted with Drew’s progress. We all praise the Lord for His mercy and grace!

Thank you for faithfully praying!

Joyfully His,
Sarah

Drew loves his binky! Notice his cute mustache? This picture was taken earlier, but the oxygen tubes are out now.

I love those bright eyes!

therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.”

  3. Praising God that Drew is doing well. I have been consistently praying and concerned since the past update. Thank you so much for updating the blog; I have been checking many times a day! I was grateful to hear that he is nursing now! Continued prayer for all of you and especially Melanie and Drew in this time. For peace and strength for Melanie and for healing for Drew! May God’s peace and strength be richly yours in abundance.

  5. PRAISE THE LORD! He is a beautiful boy! So happy to read this today. Was starting to have “anxiety” over an update that God is bringing him along. Shame on me. May the Lord continue his blessings to Drew, “Mommy” and Daddy, and entire family. Our twins were premature. 1 lb 13 oz and 3 lb 1 oz. They will be seven years old in a few weeks. To God be the glory great things He hath done!
