About 7 am, we started our trek back to Kansas. We had a great conference in CdA, so we’ll share more about that later.
We enjoyed a pretty drive this morning through the mountains, among forests, and over curvy roads. The Lord’s creation is marvelous, stunning, breath-taking, and awe-inspiring! We drove for mile after mile next to a pretty river, which I tried to capture in photos, but the photos don’t do it justice. We also came close to a wildfire. First, white haze hung over the mountains. A distinct smoke smell drifted through our open windows and filled the bus. Then, the haze became thicker. After awhile, we saw smoke drifting up from behind a hillside. A sign next to the road instructed vehicles not to stop for the next four miles. Then, the visibility dropped, and although the sun was shining, the conditions felt like a whiteout. The air was filled with smoke. It was very sobering to see houses that were close to the burned areas. We drove in the heavy smoke for a mile or two before it lightened up.
Thank you for praying for us as we drive home. We’re in Montana at the moment.
