What We Have Been Preparing For

Anna and Mary, with some help from Anna Marie, have been investing many hours in baking to preparing for our night of caroling, which is to come very soon. We will post more details later, along with the compiling party, how the caroling went, and other interesting facts.

If your family has been thinking of caroling to your neighbors, but haven’t gone for it, it’s not too late! You don’t have to bring goodies along (although it is a nice “extra”), just smiling faces and a joyful noise. Caroling is a thing of the past, for the most part. When was the last time carolers were at YOUR door? I could count on one hand the number of times we have been caroled to. It’s something our neighbors love. Now, with the added grandchildren effect, we have the cute factor.

Merry Christmas!

Love,
Sarah

Mary, Anna Marie, and Anna

Yesterday afternoon, we girls made cards. It was great working as a team.

Christopher and Anna Marie stopped in, as Joseph was going to take their picture. Christopher grabbed a few pictures for us of our work.

The front of the card. A special thanks to Mrs. Kim C. for your inspiration on this card. Your cards have been incredible over the years, and it spurred us on to creativity.

We were watching the little girls this afternoon so Nathan and Melanie could have a special Christmas dinner out and time to shop. So, of course, we can't help but add this picture of Bethany Mary took.

“And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people” (Luke 2:10).

  1. Thanks so much for your post on caroling, we’re hoping to do ours on the 23rd, we can hardly wait to sing about Jesus!

Anna-Marie, you look just radiant! I’m praying for your continued health and strength!

  2. I love these photos – what a fun time! We caroled around the neighborhood every year when I was a child, and I have such fond memories of it.

    Bethany is precious.

  3. Neighborhoods are not very hospitable anymore, unfortunately. We have lived here 1 year and 2 people have bothered to introduce themselves. I thought about taking treat to some this Christmas but my husband couldn’t in good conscience give his blessing. He fears they don’t really want to interact with one another.

I love card making and do most all of the cards that my church sends out to shut-ins, ailing folks and military personnel.

Is Anna making covered ritz crackers. Sounds good. Maybe almond bark?

The dipped Ritz taste like Girl Scout mints.

  4. Little Bethany looks more like Abigail everyday! I can hardly tell them apart (except that Abby is bigger of course).

I bake cakes for our neighbors, we don’t do the caroling but I am interested in those lovely cards you made. Could you give a quick tutorial on them and what you printed inside? I think it would be a good project for us to do. Thanks, and Merry Christmas!

Sarah will read your comment and we will see about the tutorial.

  5. I love to bake, and have spent tis afternoon baking and getting cookie plates ready to take out to the nurses/staff at mom’s care center. onight we’re going to a craft party at church where I am doing brownies in a jar for folks to make. It is the time of year to bake and eat, and then get to the gym every morning 🙂

Have a wonderful time caroling, I can imagine how mch your neighbors look forward to this event every year.

    Blessings, Mrs. Mari

  6. For some reason, it felt to me like you already caroled! Maybe it’s because we’ve had our Christmas events already. Cute Christmas cards! I like your vest, Mary (I finally found some like that!). Having Abby and Bethany must have made it even more fun! Sweet of Anna Marie to help you. I enjoy baking. It’s my favorite type of cooking.

God bless! Can’t believe Christmas is a week away! Rebecca K.

  7. We had our cookie baking night a few days ago. I think most of those cookies are gone now. Different family members took them to parties, work, church, etc. Oh well, we can always make more!

    Enjoy your night of caroling!

  8. It’s so nice to see everyone enjoying the caroling preparations. The cards look terrific, and I am sure the neighbors will appreciate your attention to detail in making the presentation as delightful as the treats inside. What scripture did you put in the cards?
    Blessings,
    Kim C.

  9. I wish I were one of your neighbors — I would love nothing more than to have carolers come to my door (or better yet, join you caroling!). Bless you, and Merry Christmas!

  10. Thank you for the encouragement. Although, we don’t sing we did decide to make treat plates to take to 8 of our neighbors. I’m really glad we did it and maybe next year it can be more.

  11. Sounds like a lot of fun~ the cookies look yummy. What kinds are the white and brown ones in the 2nd picture? I can’t tell.
    >>>>>>>>>>
The white ones had Andes Mints in them and the brown were double chocolate chip.

  12. Last week I mentioned to my husband that caroling isn’t very popular these days. We are caroling on the 22nd. Great idea!
We also invited over on christmas eve some widows and our 5 children still at home our going to act out the nativity for them while my husband reads Luke 2.
    Merry Christmas.

    Amen. That is great!

  13. What a coincidence – we just read (today) the part in the newest Moody book about caroling! The goodies look delicious. I wish we lived in your neighborhood!

  14. We went caroling on Thursday night and one of our neighbors (who we knew before) was sooooo thrilled. She had never been caroled too, even when she lived in town. It was truly a blessing.

  15. Lovely lovely photos & work guys!!
Caroling really isn’t done in Australia, not sure if it’s because in summer the sun sets around 9pm & it is still very hot, if it’s our culture or what it is…BUT that doesn’t mean we can’t be creative in being a blessing to others & reaching out with the gospel message at this time of year does it! You guys are a real encouragement to continue to be focused on giving rather than receiving each & every day!!

  16. Seeing the picture of Bethany reminded me of Melanie. How is she doing? We will continue to pray for a problem-free pregnancy!
    >>>>>>>>>>>
Good, but please do keep praying.

  17. Caroling is a fabulous idea, especially since so many of today’s Christmas “carols” don’t focus on Christ (instead focusing on Santa Clause, Rudolph, etc…). I’d love to know which real, Christ-centered, Christmas carols the Maxwell Family will be singing this year?
