Baby Update

Wow, alot has happened in the last 24 hours. Let’s start with earlier this week….celebration….38 weeks. There was a significant lessening of pressure regarding this child/pregnancy. I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders when the concern over baby coming early was no longer an issue.

Wednesday was a standard OB appointment. Sadly, that appointment found dilation. A few more checks throughout the remainder of the day found continued progress. Oddity was that it was not accompanied by active labor. We’ve been there, done that… but never at this late of a stage gestationally.

Fast forward to today…. due to a number of circumstances, we are faced with the option of “helping” labor start or it kicking in on it’s own. Obviously, our goal is to let baby (ultimately, the Lord) direct Melanie’s body on when to start. If that doesn’t happen within the next number of hours, it will get some help.

Our prayer request would be that things would start on their own, and if not God would guide and bless during the “help.”

I know the details are scarce here and that for those who are intervention averse (that would include us :)), second guessing is easy. Please know that we have exhausted all other reasonable options.

We are simply seeking God’s will and His direction and asking for prayer.

  2. We just stopped and agreed in prayer with your request that things get started on it’s own, but more than that – you continue in the wisdom the Lord already directs you and Melanie in, and that He give you peace as you face making decisions in the next few hours. God Bless and Be With You and your family. One thing you know is He hasn’t failed you yet.

  3. Will be praying for ya’ll! Sure hope the Lord helps things to start on their own. God bless you all! Thanks for letting us know!

  4. Our family is praying on behalf of all of you! We are looking forward to your testimony of God’s continuing faithfulness. May you rest in Him, and may the next few hours unfold with peace and great joy!

  5. Was just thinking about you this morning and wondering how soon we’d get a baby update! πŸ™‚ Just want to encourage you that YOU know what is best for YOU and it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. πŸ™‚ I also thought of this verse, Proverbs 16:9. Trusting with you in the Lord’s perfect leadership over all your lives!!! πŸ™‚

  6. I’m glad Melanie has made it to the 38 week marker! Now I’m praying that her labor starts naturally…but most of all that everything will go according to God’s Will. Blessings!

  7. Another induction averse Mom here, but I want to encourage you that when needed with my last baby it was a tremendous blessing. I was extremely nervous about it, but ended up with my easiest labor, quickest delivery, and fastest healing. This was after several home births. God knows. He’ll take care of all of you!

  8. I will be praying for a safe delivery and a healthy baby and momma. Even though I don’t encourage putting things in the doctor’s hands, praise God that He has given the medical profession the knowledge to take care of a situation like this when it arrises.

  9. Praying for you. We don’t like to “help” the process either. We ended up allowing the help for one of our children and we watched God work out everything! Wish I could share it here. He is so wonderful!! Praying for you!

  10. We are praying for you here that labor will happen naturally. Medically induced labor is so hard on the body, I know! BUT, in any event, it sounds like Baby Max will be here very soon, which is so very exciting! Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers!

  11. Congratulations on making it to the 38 week mark! I know that it will be a wonderful labor and delivery! Can’t wait to hear all about it!

  12. Nathan and Melanie,

I am praying for this baby. Please don’t think you have to explain to us your decision. I truly believe can and will be part of it either way and know you make your decision before the Lord. Can’t wait to hear about the new baby! Keep us posted

  13. “You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.” Isaiah 26:3

Praying for you now, that your minds will be fixed on our Heavenly Father, who knows all things and who alone can supply the peace you need. What an awesome place to be, “resting” in the Lord in the midst of “labor.” πŸ™‚ Praying for a safe, quick, as-intervention-free-as-possible delivery of your newest blessing!

  14. I was literally just wondering about an update on Melanie and baby, prayed, and then checked and found this post. Praying for the Lord to give you His wisdom, and for a safe delivery in His timing and in His way, whatever that may be.

  15. Just said a prayer here too. Also praying for a safe delivery too. Please don’t feel you need to explain it all, the Lord will lead you as He has done in the past. πŸ™‚

How exciting that you may be holding a baby soon!! πŸ™‚

  16. Praying for wisdom for the doctors, peace for all of you and for a happy healthy babyΓ’β„’Β₯

  17. My prayers are with you at this time – prayers of thanks for the longer gestation, prayers for wisdom for the doctors, prayers for health of both baby and momma, prayers for God’s peace and His guiding hand on it all.

May you rest in the glory and sovereignty of the Lord and His peace quiet your hearts. “Be still and know that I am God – Ps46:10a” πŸ™‚

  18. Know that others have walked this path, including myself. For one of my children, my water broke, but no contractions. The doctor gave me 24 hours to start on my own without meds. I did *not* want meds, but…I don’t have time or space to share our whole story, but suffice it to say, our way is not often God’s best way. In His mercy, by listening to medical professionals, we were able to avoid many complications. Praying for wisdom!

  19. I will be praying for you Nathan and Melanie. I have had inductions and natural. We are thankful for medical intervention when necessary. Looking forward to hearing the good news!

  20. Dear Nathan & Melanie–
So glad to hear you have made it to 38 weeks! Praise the Lord! To ease your mind a bit…my birthing stories have varied for our 6 children. Following our first child, three of them were “induced” by breaking my water and being dilated having never been in “active” labor–just “plodding” along through the previous few weeks. Anyway–one of the two mentioned above was induced at 38 weeks. Then, after a couple hours of active labor our fifth child arrived–9#4oz baby boy! I am praying God will reveal His will to you and fill you with his confirming peace!
    Blessings,
    Amy

  21. Through your blogs, I feel as if I know you all

May the Lord’s will be done. He will lead the birth in the right direction. We are all anxious for the updates.

God bless you all and will be praying for you.

  22. Sometimes God chooses to use medical intervention. It is really okay! We just had our 9th and always committed their births to the Lord. They have all been different.

Blessings! We are so happy for you!

  23. Definitely praying for you all. I had to be induced at 40 weeks this past January with my first little one. ( Me and my husband are also averse to intervention. ) But we had prayed and prayed for another way, and this was our only option. It turned out this was the best way for us to go ! After I was in labor, it was found I had developed pre-eclampsia that very day ! The induction was from the Lord after all. If I had not been induced, there could have been serious risks to me and baby. Sometimes things don’t turn out like we wish, but God always has a plan. πŸ™‚ I am so excited for you both that you will see little baby Maxwell soon. I do pray that God leads this rest of this pregnancy, and only His will be done.

  24. I’ll tell my family and we’ll all be praying for you. May He give you wisdom, grace, strength, and peace as He tells you what to do. Praying that the baby will be healthy and that everything will go as natural and without help as possible! Psalm 29:11

  25. Praying here! So excited for you!! I have been so thrilled to follow along and find Melanie making it to 38 weeks! Yea!

  26. What news! Alarming though it must be to hear that dilation has started at this point, 38 weeks is considered full term and if the soca are happy to let things progress as is intended then we can be hopeful that all will be well and your precious baby will soon be in your arms.

  27. Oh, I agree with Cindy. God blesses us in so many ways, sometimes through unexplained (by our human understanding) methods, and other times through the miracle of the knowledge that He has revealed to us.

I pray that you and the doctors will be guided to what is best for Melanie and the baby, and that you may feel peace in whatever the answer is.

  28. I will surely be praying for you. You are very close to my daughter’s due date of August 15th. I have 3 children, 2 induced, my daughter was one. I, too, would have preferred no inductions, but it wasn’t meant to be. All 3 births went smoothly nonetheless. My prayers for an easy delivery, healthy baby and mama. Not long now!

  29. Oh, Melanie and Nathan…38 weeks is just so wonderful! PTL! I know the Lord will give you wisdom and peace in each and every decision that needs to be made from this little one’s birth through his/her upbringing. Just keep waiting on Him and know we will be praying for you and love you both.

  30. Praying for you, Melanie, and baby too. Praying for a natural delivery with healthy baby and mom. How wonderful that she has made it to 38 weeks with this little one!

I had to be induced with #2 and #3 (due to some medical issues of mine), and everything was fine. They are now 12 and 4 respectively. πŸ™‚

God bless you at this exciting time!

  31. I have enjoyed your blog for some time now. I was thrilled to read that you have reached 38 weeks gestation. πŸ™‚ Many prayers for a safe and healthy delivery for Melanie and the baby. I required intervention with my 2nd delivery, without it my son would not be with us. I thank God every day that he bestowed the wisdom on my doctor’s to do what was necessary to save him. He spent some time in the NICU. My 3rd delivery required intervention as well, I truly believe that intervention kept my son out of the NICU.

May your family welcome this new baby with joy and light! God bless all of you.

  32. Praying for God’s wisdom and direction at the time you need it. I can’t wait to “meet” this precious little one!

  33. Just recently received an email testimony of a good Christian friend. Her daughter faced being induced and she and her daughter were crying all the way home from the appt. They decided to agree in prayer and lean on the scriptures. The labor began a short time later and they were praising God for a miracle. A healthy birth without intervention! I was so blessed by that and wanted to share it! I will pray for your strength and peace!

  34. Praying for you! No mater the decisions you will be making you know that God is leading and he is with you every step of the way.

    Blessings and love, Mrs. Mari

  35. We are agreeing with you in prayer and will be rejoicing with you soon!
    Fondly, Kim C and family

  36. We just walked a similar road last April with our youngest. It’s so challenging know just the right decisions to make. However, we can rejoice in knowing the Lord directs our steps. May you be blessed with His peace and strength as you follow His lead!

  37. Congratulations on coming this far! We respect that you are a God-fearing family and will make the best decisions possible. Praying for you as well!
