A Taste Away from Home: Gramma Mistake Bars

Gramma Mistake Bars
Christina M., Washington

1 cup butter
1 and  1/4 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup brown sugar
2 cups oatmeal
1/4 tsp. baking soda

Mix into a crumble. Pat 3/4 of it into a greased 9×13, saving the remaining 1/4 for top.

Melt: 1/2 cup margarine
1 can sweetened condensed milk
2 cup chocolate chips

Pour over bottom crust, then sprinkle remaining crumbs on top of the chocolate mixture.

Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.

A family gave us a platter of these delicious bars on the trip–yummy; we thought ya’ll might enjoy them too.

“My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste” (Proverbs 24:13).

  1. Oh, my!! Those sound delicious. I think we will have to test them out this weekend! Thanks.

  2. These sound GREAT! Do you know what kind of flour she is referring to? Will fresh ground work?
I’m sure it was just all-purpose white flour, but I wouldn’t see a problem with using wheat! Sarah

  3. I made these yesterday afternoon. They are so very good. I highly recommend having plenty of milk available when you serve these delights! Thanks for the recipe.

  4. Thank you for sharing this recipe – – sounds so yummy! I look forward to making them for my family. 🙂

  5. They are fabulous (and kind of breakfasty) with cinnamon chips instead of chocolate chips!

  6. These are soooooo yummy – and, surely putting oats in something makes it healthy?….right?….. The children are making light work of making them disappear!
Glad ya’ll are enjoying them! 🙂 Sarah
