Preparing for Caroling & Shelf Building

Thursday afternoon, Anna and Mary worked on our Christmas caroling cards. We are all anxiously awaiting our caroling evening to almost 40 neighbors in our area. We hope for the evening to be cold and snowy, but we’ll see when it comes to the day! Last year, we had perfect weather–it began to snow while we were out, and it was freezing cold.

We will be baking our fresh, cinnamon bread with a frosting glaze to hand out when we carol. If you are a new blog reader (or an “old” one 🙂 ), you are welcome to read about last year’s caroling here.

We were ready for a huge set of shelves to be built. Do you know how many things one collects building a house?! A ton! Of course you dont want to throw it out, either.

Joseph had the shelves built in a short amount of time. Seriously, it took him 2 hours or so!

  1. I love your yearly caroling tradition and the bread you give out-wouldn’t want to carol up in Massachusetts would you;-)

  2. Did I miss the cream cheese frosting recipe? We did this one year and they were so good. I might use this when we go carolling to our neighbors this year. Can you post the cream cheese frosting recipe? Thanks, Mrs. L

It’s a recipe I found when searching the internet. I’m sure there are tons! The key to this one was beating the butter/cream cheese for awhile. Otherwise, the basics of butter/cream cheese/powdered sugar/vanilla.

  3. Love reading (and seeing) your family’s yearly traditions. So nice! How do you select which day to go caroling?

We have found the Sunday evening right before Christmas is the best time to catch people at home–it’s amazing. This year, we plan to go either this Sunday, the 13th, or the next Sunday, the 20th. We’ll be watching the weather, etc.
