The Last Hiking Morning

We woke up and heard from Dad that he thought we might actually need to head home today. We’ve just discovered a valve issue with one of our tanks. As Dad prayed and discussed it, he decided we would go hiking this morning, and then go down to Denver to an RV place to get what we need. We were all excited to do one last hike.

We settled for an easier several mile hike. Below are pictures! We’ll be posting a map soon with the different cities we’ll be going to on this trip. We hope to meet many of you.

Often, throughout the park, we would see cars stopped, looking at elk. As we were headed to the park this morning, we saw elk ourselves, and a place for the bus to pull off.

  1. I was reading your postings from the past few days and have really enjoyed your pictures from your time in RMNP. I used to live near there, and your pictures bring back fun memories and a longing for Colorado in the fall. Such beautiful creation the Lord has surrounded us with! Safe travels and God bless!

  2. Wow ~ I’m impressed at how y’all are constantly taking the opportunity to take family photos! That would be SO nice – but we’re just doing good to get one good shot a year. =) Any tips on *how* you get this accomplished?? [smile]

We used a gorillapod (similar to a tripod) for one of the family pictures, but for the ones with this post, we asked nearby hikers to take it 🙂 … You also need to have a person in the family encouraging the family picture (in this case, it was me) and helping to make it happen …

  3. You all take such lovely pictures! Thank you for sharing some of the beautiful Creation that you have been able to see! 😀 Oh, praying for you all! Hopefully you can get it fixed soon!

    God Bless!

  4. I LOVE your photography. Do you mind me asking what type of camera you use and how did you learn to do such a great job? Also how do you catalog so many great pics? God Bless you on your travel.

Joseph and I both have Nikon D200s. We have a variety of lenses. Christopher let Joseph bring several of his nice lenses which he uses for his professional photography. I have a Tamron 2.8 17-50mm and two other Nikon lenses. We mainly used the Tamron lens and Christopher’s.

Right now, we store our pictures on an external hard drive, which is automatically backed up to another hard drive, in case of failure. We do scrapbook. Mom does photo slide shows, and recently she received a digital photo frame for her birthday, so we’re all enjoying seeing pictures more often. We need a catalog system, but we haven’t had time to set one up.

  5. Seeing all your hiking pictures has made us itching for a hiking trip of our own! We enjoy hiking in the White Mountains. My opinion is that it’s the best way to see and enjoy God’s creation!

I was wondering, since your family hikes, if you would now what the best food is to take on a hike. We always found it difficult to now just what to pack to eat.

We’ve been enjoying all the BEAUTIFUL pictures! I especially like your family photos.

    Thinking and Praying for you,
    Samantha

  6. I have only recently started to read your blog and I just love the photos. I am not from the USA (and never visited) so am finding your travels very interesting.

  7. Thanks for sharing such beautiful nature shots with us. For families like my own, we have never been to Colorado(and don’t see a trip in the near future) to gain the pleasure of seeing all there is to see. I have heard for some time now that the state is rich in wildlife and scenery such as we are seeing in these pictures. For me, it is just more testimony of what only our Creator/God has created and can create. And to think He just spoke it into existence. More Than Amazing! The picture of the reflection of the sunset in your bus was awesome. I also like seeing pictures of your family. It is nice to see how well God is turning Mary into a beautiful young lady and the boys into handsome young men. The same is true with pictures of Abby. As they all do(I have five of my own), she is beautifully growing up so fast. I know you(Steve and Teri)are proud of them all.
    Thanks again

  8. Thank you all so much for faithfully posting so much. I am grateful for the time an effort you put into keeping your readers updated. It is so good to see a family together serving the Lord.

  9. I’m a bit envious – you must all be in great shape to handle another hike so soon. I went for a two mile hike three days ago and I am still sore and limping (it was pretty steep). After a nine mile hike I usually can barely walk and it takes a week or two to recover.

Those look like beautiful areas. Such places always remind me of the song “How Great Thou Art” especially the second verse – “When through the woods, and forest glades I wander . . .”.

God Bless and may the Lord protect you on your trip,

    Scott
