We were blessed by another chance to share at an assisted living facility yesterday! It is always our joy when we can share Jesus with those people there through music and testimony. We look forward to this time of singing every month! It was a special treat to have Nathan, Melanie, and Abigail with us also. Normally, on the road they don’t travel with us, but since this was in town they were able to join us. Abigail brings a special delight to the faces of the residents! Below you will find a glimpse into our time with the residents.

More Matching Jumpers! How beautiful! What Songs do you normally sing at church and at nursing homes? I’ve been putting together a book of favorite hymns and am wondering what some of your’s are.

We have sung mostly hymns in the past. We have recently added some story songs and are experimenting with them. The hymns are more popular at nursing homes as they know them.

Thanks for sharing your community outreach excursions!!! I love how your family so selflessly reaches out to the elderly and shines the light of Jesus!!! What a testimony the Maxwell Fam is to so many. :o) Question for you: How difficult is it for one to obtain permission to begin an outreach in a nursing home or similar facility? I wanted to start a similar outreach (not music though since my boys don’t play instruments yet) possibly once a week for a homeschool project. Thanks in advance for any information you have on this topic.
Joyfully His,
Shannon

You are kind, but the only thing good in us is Jesus. May we just obey Him.
It is easy to obtain permission to minister at nursing homes. I’ve heard of only a few times where the activities director didn’t want someone to come, but for the most part, they welcome families to come in and spend time with the residents. Just call and ask for the activities director and explain that you would like to come with your boys and visit with some residents. What time would she recommend? Would she give you the names of a few that might enjoy a visit?
There are some that are more personable then others and to start with some easy ones would make it much easier until you are comfortable.
Let us know if you have any more questions.
In Christ Jesus,
Steve
That’s great that Melanie, Nathan, and little Abigail (she is getting so big!) could be with you all! What a great addition to your ministry time! =:D Your family is such an inspiration to mine, we have been trying to visit the nursing homes in our area and sing to them and share the gospel as well! It is always a joy for us!
Many Blessings to you all!

I love your family’s heart for the elderly. They are so often forgotten by the world when they have so much to offer if they are just given the chance. 🙂
Isn’t it so encouraging to visit those people? When I had opportunity to minister with our family at a nursing facility I often left thinking how they had blessed me, while I had gone to bless them! Be not weary in well-doing.

Amen. We are always blessed far more than they ever could be blessed by us.

I love that you minister to these folks. Sometimes when I visit my cousin in the nursing home all the residents just set out in chairs in the hall for hours breaks my heart. They so love to just grab my childrens hands and talk with them for a minute or two. The elderly , in my opinion are a forgotten part of our society and I am grateful to folks like you obeying the Lord’s calling to minister to them and share the gospel of great news!
It is lovely to see you ministering to these older folks. We have a nursing home ministry from our Church…one lady, who’s husband always come in for the service once a month, has just been married for 73 YEARS just yesterday! Such a onderful opportunity to try andreach them for the Lord, when their days are more surely fewer….
