Driving through the Florida Panhandle at this time of the year in a large-profile vehicle that has a big windshield is messy, thanks to the little bugs that look somewhat similar to Kansas fireflies, but, unlike fireflies, these bugs are active during the day.

An interesting trick I learned from a car enthusiast group:
Applying painter’s tape (the blue tape used for masking when painting walls) to the front of a vehicle makes cleanup much easier on painted surfaces and won’t damage the vehicle’s finish. You will still need to clean the windows, but cleaning the front of the vehicle is just a matter of peeling off the tape.
So much for cleaning up Uriah before you left, eh?
Ya’ll got off easy. I’ve seen lovebugs so bad before that you couldn’t see the front of the car any more. The carwash at the turnpike rest stop sure made money during that time.
I’ve enjoyed reading all the post about your trip. I just wanted to offer some words of wisdom from someone who has lived in Florida all their life…when you get love bugs on your car, get them off ASAP. If you leave them on, they will eat into the paint. The good news is they aren’t around all year, only in the spring and the end of summer for 3 weeks each time. Praying you have a safe trip and reach many with your words of wisdom.
