We are still working on the tiling. The family has discovered that tiling is tiresome, uncomfortable, and difficult work that seems to never end, especially when the whole main floor is tile. We are almost finished laying tile, and it looks great, but it still has to be grouted and sealed. Everyone will be glad when this step of the house is completed.
Trusting in Jesus,
Teri
Countless buckets of “mud” have been mixed up.
Extra “mud” has to be cleaned off the tiles and in between each tile. Anna, Jesse, and Mary have done a wonderful job!
There are not many who build their own home any more. What memories you are all creating! Think of it as a loooooong pregancy (elephant?) with a prize at the end.
So good to meet you all this year.
Congratulations on the little one!
I had wondered how your house was coming along — thanks for sharing! It looks like the floor will be absolutely beautiful when it’s done! π And, it’s always fun to see the family working together — what a testimony that is! Blessings! π
Hello! Wow! Your house is coming along great! We just re-did our kitchen floor and boy it was hard work!Looks like you were all doing a wonderful job on it! Thanks for the update!
In Christ,
Rachel
Thank you for allowing us into your lives. Your openness has encouraged me to take more pictures, post them on my blog and keep track of the memories. The days with my little ones will fly by and I want to make sure I’m training, encouraging, and most importantly enjoying them.
I was wondering how your house building project was coming along. Looking good! π We are in the process of building a new home here too. We do have others doing work for us, but we will be doing a lot ourselves too. We have just started framing. It is exciting to see progress being made. π Thanks for sharing!!
The fact that you are building the house as a family team is a testimony! Thanks for sharing! I too was wondering how your house was coming along. I pray for God’s strength for each of you as you work to finish the house.
Just as a suggestion to help you enjoy the time which goes by…
My husband and I have been listening to the KJV Bible on CD. It’s especially wonderful when we come to a scripture which has been particularly helpful during a trying time.
I don’t know if you have any favorite Christian authors, but their books on tape can be of benefit as well. (I’ve found it a wonderful way to make the hours I spend working on sewing projects go by more pleasantly.)
Of course, there is no substitute for the printed word, and I’m sure that just being together can be fun…but I respectfully submit this idea because it sounds as though, in spite of the overall noble effort, you may have drifted into the doldrums.
We helped my MIL tile her kitchen, and that was enough to help dh and I decide that tile was not for us teehee!
Please be encouraged by your efforts (I’m sure you are once you step back and admire your hard work!). That tile is beautiful, and you will love having it, and will hardly remember the toil once you are all moved in (you’ll just be grateful for it!). We did some tile about 2 years ago and it was such a learning curve for us, but once it was layed, the grouting wasn’t so bad, and the sealing was easy, easy, easy (buy the spray stuff from Home Depot, then wipe off excess as you go, but make sure you have full ventilation when you apply!).
It’s so exciting for us to see your house project. I wish we had it in us to do the same, but we normally have to hire out for major house projects since my DH is just not inclined to do them. Always a work in progress around here.
Thanks for your encouraging and inspiring photos and report!
Building a house from scratch and with family can be a great challenge. It is amazing to see the house in progress and thanks for sharing.
My husband just finished renovating the bathroom and it took him 2 weeks to remove the wallpaper, the vanity, and paint the walls. He learn alot as he was going along with the projects. Our next project is the kitchen and that will be a great challenge for us because we need a demolition we are planning to demolish the whole kitchen. That most likely will be next year….I am in the planning stage. My husband want me to design a layout because I am the one who spent a great deal of time in the kitchen.
Thanks again for sharing the blogs and pictures.
My parents have been in the middle of a remodel of their kitchen for a while now. This last Christmas my dad decided to lay down tile… It looks great, but they also found the dreary of all the hard work! (not to mention- my mom fell over it while they were working and fractured her arm!) It’s beautiful now…all that work will pay off soon! You all are doing great!
Looks Great!! I was wondering if you could give me the brands and colors of the green and brown paint you used to paint your house? I love them!

Not a problem. It would be great to wait until we get this resource project we are in the middle of finished. You can email us after the 1st and we will send them to you.
In Christ Jesus,
Steve
I wonder if you folks chose the color of your grout already. May I suggest the color of dirt? π Seriously, we did it in our bathrooms and I LOVE it!

The color we already picked and used was similar to the tile color.
