Meet Andrew James Maxwell

DSC_6085

Hello! My name is Andrew James Maxwell, but you can call me Drew if you like. I’m God’s special gift to my daddy and mommy and big sisters—their first little boy. Being in mommy’s tummy went pretty fine for awhile, until a week ago Friday. Then, everything got really tight. So Mommy and I had to stay at the hospital. Finally, it was time for me to come.

After I was born, I cried. There were so many people looking at me, and it was very bright and not warm like it was inside Mommy. I couldn’t quite get my breath, so they had to put this thing over my mouth to help me breathe. Since the doctor knew I needed some help, they decided to take me to the place where all the little babies go that need help.

Before I left, Mommy asked if she could please touch me. I was already in my own bed and had all kinds of beeping machines attached to me. The people were really nice and pushed me close. Mommy held my hand and told me she loved me and to be a big boy.

I went to my room, and since I was struggling, they put an IV line into my belly button.  When they were done, Daddy and Mommy came in, and Mommy talked to me and touched me. I think she was glad to know I was okay.

Around lunchtime, my body didn’t do so well, and suddenly, the room filled up with all kinds of people. The nurses put some medicine in my IV line. I guess it saved my life! I didn’t mean to scare Daddy and Mommy, and I’ll try not to do that again. The rest of the day was okay, but they had to redo my IV line, because it wasn’t working too well. I remembered Mommy’s telling me to be a big boy.

I got to meet my big sisters: Abigail, Bethany, and Christina. I think I looked kind of different than they thought I would with this funny oxygen thing on, but they liked seeing me. I can’t wait to go home and be cuddled! My big sister, Christina, thinks I need to sit up, but as many times as my Aunt Mary tries to tell her I can’t, she doesn’t understand. Maybe she will someday.

I want to thank you for praying for me. I still need it as I grow healthy and strong. I want to grow up and be a man of God, just like Andrew and James were in the Bible. I love you all!

(And thanks to my Aunt Sarah for helping me with this post.)

“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”
Jeremiah 1:5

  27. May The Lord bless thee. May he shine his face upon thee.

Andrew James, you indeed are blessed and covered in his grace.

  28. Welcome, Baby Drew! I will be keeping you and your family in my prayers. I’ve been following the story of your beautiful family for a few years now. Your big sister Bethany was due right around the same time as my first son. Last year I had another son who needed to spend 3 weeks in the NICU before we could bring him home. I know from experience how stressful it can be for the whole family, but there are some amazing people there who do some amazing things to help get babies off to a strong start. Drew, you sound like a fighter already, which is just what you need! I’m impressed that you are a whole half pound bigger than my son who was born at 38 weeks! Keeping you in my prayers and wishing you and your family the very best!

Thank you for sharing! Yes. NICU staff are amazing!

  29. Dear Sarah,
We love your writing. God truly has blessed you with a talent that blesses us. We are praying and waiting on your next wonderful Moody book. 🙂 We are praying for the LORD’s leading as He lays out all of the details and places this amazing resource into many hands. My son just loves these books. Thank you for following the LORD’s leading and providing us parents with these books. They are so needed, an answer to prayer. :)My son really identifies with Mitch! He makes “Biblical burritos” all the time! Drew will love these books as well I am sure! You are a special aunt. 🙂

May the LORD bless you richly as you serve Him.

  30. We praise the Lord for God’s special gift of Drew. Our son Graham took Nathan’s class and so enjoyed it. Graham was born 1 lb 9 oz, 4 mths in the NICU , he is now 14 yrs old and almost 6 feet tall. We will pray for you and precious Drew to be home from NICU very soon.
    ——
Wow, Graham had a long road in the NICU! So glad he is healthy now. Blessings.

  31. Praise God for this wonderful blessing of baby Andrew! So glad Melanie is doing well, and that these reports about this precious boy are also very encouraging! What a gift! And what a testimony to others about trusting the Lord Jesus Christ in such fears and trials as pregnancy and birth can be (as well as trusting in everything!).
So glad to read the previous comment’s answer about Andrew doing well–I’ll be eager to see the update!
Congratulations to all! I am rejoicing with you!

  32. Aww…he is so sweet! <3

  34. What a great post! Congratulations! Covering baby Drew and all your family in prayers. I can just imagine how excited his big sisters were to meet him.

  35. What a blessing!
We are praying for you all and Baby Drew.
Nehemiah was born 11 weeks early almost a year ago and is doing great.
    Keep looking to Jesus.

    Diana for the family

So glad Nehemiah is doing well!

  36. Congratulations! 3 years ago we had our 5th sweet blessing born at 34 weeks and 4 days. He ended up spending 13 days in the NICU with pneumothorax and a PDA. They missed his lip and tongue ties which changed our feeding plans, but now he’s a happy, healthy boy. May God grant you peace and strength to endure this trial and come out victorious. He truly is a good God!

  37. Congratulations on your new little boy. I pray that God will help him grow healthy and strong, and that you may bring him home to his family soon.

  38. Congratulations on the birth of Drew. His birth weight was very good considering he was born at 35 weeks! May his health continue to progress so he can go home to be with the family. He is a lucky guy to have so much love awaiting him.

  39. Precious introduction. Praying for Drew. Praise the Lord, he is doing well. 🙂

  40. I’m praying that you get to come home to live with your Daddy, Mommy, and big sisters really quickly Drew. I’m so happy that you’re here. Sometimes that adjustment from Mommy’s tummy to this world can be rough, but I know that with God’s help, you’re going to do just fine!
